Summary:

District Shaheed Benazirabad is amongst the most affected district in Sindh province by flash rains 2011. NDMA & Clusters had nominated it worst affected & at a high risk with huge agriculture, livestock, Infrastructure & livelihood devastations. Rain caused floods affected more than 0.9 million individuals & 0.3 million houses were collapsed. Shaheed Benazirabad has an agriculture based economy & 100% communities have it as primary occupations. MOJAZ Foundation has its presence in Shaheed Benazirabad since 2011. It has implemented 2 projects earlier, one with WFP on general food distribution & second with Concern Worldwide & USAID on transitional shelter with a focus on same target areas. MOJAZ Foundation conducted rapid need assessment study in UC Hamal Faqir to find out the most urgent needs of the community. The study revealed that agriculture and community based infrastructure were the worst hit sectors by the flood. Findings of the need assessment were shared with Concern Worldwide against its call of proposal in the month of March 2012. The project was approved for a period of 3 months starting from May 09, 2012. The focus of the project was both economic asset restoration and temporary employment to revive the communities and local market through CFW activities and rehabilitation of productive infrastructure to support livelihood.
